I'm a co-blogger at All Things Urban Fantasy, while Read Fragment is where other genres wash ashore.
I read this book in a distracted state, I'll have to reread it before I can do it justice (and before I can go on to the next one in the series). I had issues with the mythology of the world the characters inhabited. The details about navigation and cultural differences were interesting, but it didn't gel enough to make me feel like I really believed in their curse. I was a bit annoyed with Telmaine’s attitudes, reasonable and believable thought they are, but I do look forward to seeing how she develops in future books. Also, I enjoyed having two main characters that are married, have been married for a long time, and can both be aware of the appeal of other characters while remaining committed to their marriage. I found Telemaine and Balthasar’s relationship very realistic in a genre that abounds with “soul mates” and irrevocable, overwhelming attractions that wipe out all other possibilities.
