A very neat use of reality, ULTRAVIOLET felt like the intersection of Science Fiction and Paranormal YA. Characters I liked, realistic explanations for inexplicable phenomena, and enough uncertainty that line between fact, fiction, and magic felt blurry. Unfortunately, while Alison's situation was scientifically interesting, the she always felt a bit removed (which is part of her character, but made the book lower impact for me). Why the reason behind her situation is unique, I couldn't help but be reminded of other books that handled similar themes in ways I enjoyed more (Shatter Me, Obsidian, or Unraveling for examples).
