While the premise of IN A FIX drew me in, there were several aspects of the story that didn't work for me. The love triangle was a bit of a bust, and the paranormal elements always seemed... odd. Using the adaptor abilities for this particular business never quite made sense for me. It was such a stretch to imagine a woman paying someone else to romance their future-fiance. This time around, the book opens with Ciel getting groped to accomplish what should have been fairly mundane P.I. work... and really not worth the adaptor cost premium.
So QUICK FIX starts with unbelievable magic, continues with the love triangle, and I just decided I didn't care. The whole series has a light tone, but it strikes me as silly rather than "laugh out loud". I feel like I prefer Nicole Peeler's
Jane True for my silliness and Holly Black's WHITE CAT for my world building, leaving QUICK FIX out in the cold.
