This book felt very much like a placeholder as far as action goes, with the main characters moving from one assassination attempt to another in rapid succession. The best feature of the book is the continuing relationship between Cassiel and Luis, Caine did a good job of depicting Cassiel's awareness and reaction to her first human attraction. The big secret that drove Cassiel into human form is revealed, but the climax at the end of the book felt forced. I felt like a three book publishing deal stretched one or two books worth of content over three, to the detriment of this second installment. Looking forward to book three, however, and the resolution of all this build up.
