All the things that I enjoyed about The Darkest Powers
series are here, without making me feel for a moment that Armstrong was going to re-tread old material. THE GATHERING
sets the stage for a new mix of interesting characters, and I applaud Armstrong's casting for this band of teenage heros. Maya has times when she's just too witty and perfect and self-confident, but it does not take long to realize that she has room to grow (and the chops to pull it off). Her relationships with both Daniel and Rafe are enticing, her interactions with Haylee and Sam surprising, and while I certainly have predictions I by no means have it all figured out. The worst part about finishing THE GATHERING
was thinking how long I have to wait for the next book to be available, I can't wait!
