Just starting this book made me so happy. Stiefvater's characters are charming and multi-layered. Even as I explored deeper and deeper into the mythology of their world, I was not sure what roles each person would fall into. Gansey, Blue, Adam, and Ronan... Stiefvater gives each of them a touch of romance and heroism, as well as feet of clay.
I'm not sure that this book has an "end" so much as a pause, one breath held until he next page can be turned. The charisma of these characters promises heart break and magic, and Stiefvater has managed the improbable of giving three boys and one girl each their own sense of romantic potential without the obvious trappings of any sort of love triangle. THE RAVEN BOYS reminds me of the best of Guy Gavriel Kay, and I look forward to each new installment further deepening the magic of this world.
